Have you ever wondered why people have walked away from your leadership?
I have observed that people find comfort under the umbrella of competent leadership. It means someone is looking out for you. It means that you can rest a little easier because you know someone else is concerned about your well-being. You only have to follow a “paper leader” one time to understand that what makes a leader desirable is much more than how you dress, what you drive, or simply being attractive. Real leaders have substance. And that substance is found not on the surface, but in the bones.
So, when we work on our leadership, we don’t work so much on the surface as we do the structure. The stronger the heart, mind, and soul, the better the leader. Solomon once said that understanding is worth it, even though it cost us everything we have. Always be wary of the leader who spends more on their shoes than their books. Yes, the work on the inside takes longer and doesn’t get the immediate recognition, but when the storms come (and they will), you’ll be glad you put the investments in the right places…
Take five minutes and consider your bones. Where are you putting in the work? Are you putting more effort into the wrapper when you should be investing in the structure instead? Consider and adjust.
